Social media as a tool for intercultural learning and education
Millions of our members around the world value their individual traditions, beliefs, and norms that make them unique. Social media connects them all – regardless of differences and geographical boundaries. How well do we adapt our content to provide and support intercultural learning and education for our members?
This session was inspired by current events around the world and will dive into the importance of the Gender & Diversity work of our organisations and its impact through social media platforms. It will encourage participants to assess their knowledge on the topic and inspire them to take action. The session will also provide specific tools on how to address the subject whilst also sparking great conversations and connections between participants.
At the end of the session, participants will;
- be knowledgeable about cultural diversity and the importance of recognising it
- be familiar with the WAGGGS Gender and diversity mainstreaming toolkit and its use
- have seen different examples of how youth organisations use social media for inter cultural education
- understand the role of social media in intercultural education. • Know how to use social media to attract and address everyone
- be familiar with the concept of intercultural sensitivity communication and the language we should choose to address the audience through our social media platforms
- feel inspired to share their personal/professional experiences on the topic and get new ideas on maximising inclusiveness in content planning for their social media impact
- have shared personal and professional experience in this topic, whilst benefitting from different viewpoints
Target audience– All participants, any level
