A seat at the table – enabling young people’s access to decision making spaces

Our Movements empower members to embrace social impact, advocacy and believe in their power to change the world they live in. Their leadership journeys extend all the way through the youth and adult programmes, starting with the youngest of members, and provide them with the conscious leadership practise and skill required to take such action. To help facilitate social action, we believe young people deserve a seat at the decision-making table – but access to these spaces is not always easy for younger members.

This session will explore the journey from youth-led advocacy to young people in decision-making. Young change makers and mentors will share their stories, including their barriers, triumphs, and recommendations to increase the accessibility of decision making spaces to all young members.

At the end of the session, participants will be able to…

  • Understand the current situation of young people in governance.
  • Identify the barriers young people from various backgrounds face in entering governance.
  • See how we can challenge these barriers based upon real case study examples.
  • Take action and recognise that the first step isn’t always enough.
