In the shoes of the migrants: playing the “game” of their journey to safety

Within a Game, the participants will play the role of different kinds of migrants (fleeing mostly persecution because of race, gender, religion, political opinion, climatic change and war) who wish to travel to Europe. The game fictions the steps that occur in real life during the journey: crossing the border, being hosted in a centre, submitting the application, appealing the decision to the Tribunal, including obstacles, which make it very hard to get to the end (corruption, racism, shortcomings in the reception system and in the procedure). Moreover, the participants will be asked to share their own stories and experiences, given the opportunity to ask questions about refugees/migrants and discuss about key problems related to the phenomenon, by confronting ideas and giving themselves the possibility to change their minds.

Target audience: Participants addressing this topic for the first time. Participants already engaged in national/local activities concerning refugees and migrants.

Facilitator: Joana Texeira
